A thyroid profile test request slip carries three abbreviations. T3, T4, and TSH. Read together, these three values tell the story of how your thyroid gland is working. Understood individually, the report stops being intimidating. At UniQ Pathlab we run the T3 T4 TSH test for patients across Noida, Greater Noida, and Delhi NCR every day. This guide explains what each marker measures, and why all three are read together.
Your thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland in your neck. It produces hormones. Those hormones control your metabolism, which is how your body uses energy. A thyroid check up measures these hormones and the signal that regulates them.
The standard panel covers:
Some panels also report the "free" versions. FT3 and FT4 measure the unbound, biologically active hormone.
Reading these three together is the whole point of the test, and one value on its own rarely gives you the full picture. Patients ask us constantly which of the three is the important one, and the honest answer is that the question does not really work. Here is what each is doing.
Your doctor is reading across that whole row rather than down it. A TSH that has drifted with normal T4 tells a different story from a TSH that has drifted with T4 falling alongside it, and that is the distinction the panel exists to make.

TSH |
Pituitary signal to the thyroid |
High TSH → underactive thyroid; Low TSH → overactive |

Why Is TSH Usually the First Clue?
TSH works like a thermostat. Thyroid hormone runs low. The pituitary pushes out more TSH to stimulate the gland. A high TSH therefore often signals an underactive thyroid, called hypothyroidism. Hormone levels run high. TSH drops. That points toward an overactive thyroid, called hyperthyroidism. Many doctors screen with a TSH profile test first. They add T3 and T4 to confirm.
How Do Free T3 and Free T4 Fit In?
Most T4 in your blood is bound to proteins. That fraction is inactive. The free T4 blood test and FT3 measure only the unbound hormone available to your cells. This gives a clearer read in pregnancy. It gives a clearer read in certain illnesses. It gives a clearer read when results are borderline. If your doctor ordered an FT3 FT4 TSH test, this is why.
Thyroid problems are common. They are often subtle. The American Thyroid Association estimates that a large share of thyroid disorders go undiagnosed. Watch for the following.
These symptoms overlap with many other conditions. That is why a blood test confirms and guesswork does not.
Preparation is minimal. The sample is a simple blood draw.
An abnormal thyroid result does not automatically mean lifelong treatment. Mildly raised TSH sometimes settles on a repeat test. Clearer patterns guide your doctor toward medication and monitoring. Thyroid conditions are among the most manageable once identified. This is why testing matters.
At UniQ Pathlab we make the thyroid profile test straightforward. Clean reports. Transparent pricing. Home sample collection across Delhi NCR. You and your doctor can act on clear T3, T4 and TSH results without delay.
Do I need to fast for a thyroid test in Noida?
Usually no. A T3 T4 TSH test does not require fasting unless combined with tests like blood sugar. Follow your doctor's specific instructions.
What's the difference between T3, T4 and free T3/T4?
T3 and T4 measure total hormone. Free versions, FT3 and FT4, measure only the active unbound fraction. This can be more precise in certain situations.
Which is more important, TSH or T3/T4?
TSH is often the first screening marker. Doctors read all three together for an accurate picture.
Can thyroid tests be done at home?
Yes. We offer home sample collection across Delhi NCR. Reports are usually delivered the same day or within 48 hours.
