Do you know how far liver damage progresses before you feel anything? Further than most people expect. A liver function test in Noida is the simplest way to check an organ which performs hundreds of jobs, from processing nutrients to helping your blood clot, and which almost never announces a problem early. Two markers carry most of the attention here, SGPT and SGOT, and it is important for you to know what separates them.
An LFT is a group of blood tests measuring the enzymes, proteins and waste products your liver makes or clears. Read together they show how the organ is performing and whether it is under strain.
So what this means is that it is a panel rather than a number. Within it the enzymes SGPT and SGOT draw the most attention, because they are sensitive to liver stress earlier than most other markers are.
SGPT, which MedlinePlus lists as ALT or alanine transaminase, is an enzyme concentrated mainly in the liver. When liver cells are inflamed or damaged they leak it into the bloodstream, so a raised level signals that something is affecting those cells.
Because it is fairly specific to the liver, it is among the more trustworthy markers of liver cell health. If you have searched what an SGPT or ALT test measures, that is the answer: a liver enzyme which rises when liver cells are under stress.
SGOT, also called AST or aspartate aminotransferase, is a close relative. It sits in the liver too, but also in the heart, the muscles and other tissue, so a raised SGOT can reflect a liver problem or something else entirely.
The thing to note here is that reading one without the other tells you only half the story, which is why they are never ordered apart.

Because early liver change is usually silent, and by the time symptoms arrive the problem is rarely new. MedlinePlus notes that these tests are used both to investigate symptoms and to monitor an existing condition or the effects of medication, and that people with risk factors may need testing even without any symptoms at all.
Early problems are frequently silent, but these are worth acting on: yellowing of the skin or eyes, persistent fatigue, loss of appetite or nausea, pain in the upper right abdomen, and dark urine or pale stools. None confirms a diagnosis alone, though together they make a clear case.
An abnormal LFT opens an investigation rather than settling one. A mildly raised SGPT or SGOT may lead only to a repeat test or a review of diet, alcohol and medication, while a clearer change prompts imaging or further work. The reassuring part is that many liver problems caught at this stage respond very well to treatment and to lifestyle change.
Booking an extended LFT at UniQ Pathlab is quick, with free home sample collection across Noida, Greater Noida and Delhi NCR and reports usually the same day. The wider liver and hepatitis panel is available where your doctor wants more detail.
